Doctors make poor patients.
We often excel at seeing how others can improve, “Oh, well if you did this first, changed up your routine, you would save a ton of time!”
But struggle to turn that inspection inwards.
The logical voice of reason at every meeting, may struggle with the most inner chaos.
I’m reminded of this quirk of psychology when I sit down to have reviews with my team.
I provide coaching and compliments in equal measure, but immediately wave off any thanks or praise.
“Uh, thank you. . . so anyway, as I was saying about your velocity over the last few months”
So — my self-coaching talk for today, “Take the compliment, accept yourself, be a better patient.”
Work in progress. . is progressing.
Be a better patient
